Ulay & Abramovic

Collection of ephemera from Frank Uwe Laysiepen (1943–2020), known as Ulay, and Marina Abramovic (1946). The material dates partly from before their artistic union in 1975. (1) Invitation card by Seriaal Amsterdam for Ulay's 'Renais-sense, polaroid slide picture show', 1974. (2) Transparent flexi-disc 33.3 rpm by Ulay and Willem Breuker for Seriaal. Edition of 300. Released as part of Ulay's rare quarterly publication Renais-sense instant, issued by Seriaal. (3) Postcard 'Ulay 1943-1974. Mein Abschied als einzige Person', dated December 25 1974. Important card in which Ulay announced his departure as a separate person (and start a new identity together with Marina Abramovic).

(4) Postcard announcing Marina Abramovic's (now iconic) video performance 'Art must be beautiful. Artists must be beautiful' at Kvindeudstillingen Charlottenborg Copenhagen, on Dec 16 1975. The artist brushes her hair aggressively while repeating this mantra until near collapse. Rare, in very good state. (5) Invitation card Ulay/Abramovic AMAM association Musée d'Art Moderne Geneva, Dec 1977. Performance picture of the couple attached by their hair. With pinhole, else very good. (6) Exhibition poster for the Ulay/Abramovic performance at the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam, Nov 30 1977. Offset b/w, 59 x 42 cm, folded twice, pinholes in corners, generally a fine copy. (total 6)
