Raymond Pettibon, Virgin Fears

Lawndale, CA, SST Publications, 1983. First edition. Illustrated stapled wraps, 21.6 x 14 cm, 28 pp. Hand-numbered 268 on the front cover in red ink. From an edition of 500 of which, supposedly, 400 were destroyed. Some mild toning to spine, else near fine.

Scarce artists' book from the artist mostly associated with the American punk rock scene. Pettibon's brother Greg Ginn (guitarist for the band Black Flag) ran SST Records, under whose auspices most of Pettibon's early books were published and distributed. As they didn't sell well, he destroyed most of the remaining copies, keeping only a hundred or so copies of each issue. Ref: Aarons and Roth pp. 394-403.
