*Arminius (18 BC-21 AD) was a Roman officer and later head of the Germanic Cherusci tribe. He became known for his defeat of the Roman troops in the Battle of the Teutoburg forest. During the unification of Germany in the 19th century, Arminius became a national hero and symbol of unity and freedom.
