*Huffman is famous for his photographs that document late 19th century life in eastern Montana. His subjects include cowboys and ranch life, Native Americans and buffalo hunts. His photos of buffaloes and bison hunting taken between 1880 and 1883 are some of the few that exist and are among the most historically significant images he produced. Due to overhunting, the majority of large buffalo herds had vanished by the 1890s, and the species was on the brink of extinction.
