The journey documented in this photo album was organized by the Telegraaf as an educational-recreational tour for some of the greatest Dutch professors and academics. The tour was led by Frans de Liagre Böhl and Prof. R. Casimir and Prof. A.W. Byvanck were amongst the travelers. It was the first in a series of tours to the Middle-East (all guided by prof. Böhl), which greatly bolstered the popularity of archaeology in the Netherlands. A bundle of letters, bearing the same title as the album, was also published to commemorate the tour. It is unknown which participant this album belonged to.
