Data File. Near complete set A to XX
A consecutive run of 24 issues of the mail-art quarterly published by Richard Meade in Los Angeles from 1983 to1989. Limited edition of 150, this one being 43/150, all copies hand-signed. The issues are numbered by the letters of the alphabet, and run from A to XX. There were 26 numbers published in total, issues Y(ourself) and Z(ero) did not appear. (Perneczky Assembling Magazines, p 165). Each issue features artists' submissions, and is devoted to a theme starting with the letters of the alphabet, i.e.: 1 'Animals', 2 'Baggage', 3 'Couple', 4 'Death', 5 'Erotic', and so on. Issue 'Weird' includes the Frank Gehry page, apparently missing in some copies. Issues 'Open' and 'Pain/Pleasure' are preserved in the original sending envelopes.
Contains photocopied and original (some signed) works on various papers in different colours and textures, 21 x 14 cm, each featuring approx. 40 pages with collages, rubberstamps etc. Contributions by Klaus Groh, Ruggero Maggi, Vittore Baroni, Pat Fish, Di Piepol, Lon Spiegelman, Bob Kirkman, Andrzej Dudek-Durer, Jurgen O. Olbrich, Ryosuke Cohen, Achim Schnyder, Kazuo Mizushima, Angelo Vitale et al. Added is a portfolio published by Data File in 1988, titled 'Tragbare Daten' (Portable Data) signed by the collaborators Richard Meade, Vänci Stirneman and Victoria Zapata. Added: three postcard announcements for events by Data File, incl. one card signed by Meade. Rare and very fresh collection. (total 28)
