Ca. 1875. Album with 33 albumen prints, each w. manuscr. caption in English. Manuscr. title on first pastedown, contemp. gold-tooled hmor. Oblong 8vo. The album opens with architectural views, including the Governor's House and the new market, followed by photographs of roads and streets such as Benting Street, Chilpore Road and Russell Street. It also includes 5 views of the B.Y. Docks and scenes near Kalighat and Barnatore. Also features street views, major buildings, harbour scenes and portraits of local residents, incl. beggars, carpenters, palki bearers, a barber and a group of Rohillas.
Boards show considerable surface wear and loss, some images a little faded, overall well-preserved. Striking visual record of Calcutta in the late 19th century.
