French wooden heliocentric armillary sphere
Height 46 cm incl. black wooden stand; diameter 28.5 cm. France, 19th cent. (?). With seven rings surrounding the sun and two additional rings surrounding the earth. The inner rings bear printed strips of text; the broad outer ring carries a printed paper band indicating the 12 months and their corresponding zodiac signs (w. a few tears). The black stand shows signs of worming, the sphere itself a bit darkened, some of the gilding of the sun is worn. A very attractive armillary sphere.
