1st Giro ciclistico d'Italia organizzato dalla Gazzetta dello Sport K.2500 Maggio, 1909. Velocipedi Atala Meravigliosi. 108 p. stapled. In jugendstil design pap. cover. 29,5 x 15 cm. With photos and descriptions of places visited by the 8 day tour. Including 50 pictures of all the favourites. Enclosed (without page-numbers) is a list with all registered cyclists, some of whom in the end decided not to run the race.

*Registration for the first Giro d'Italia was open to professionals and amateurs from each country that was aligned with the Union Cycliste Internationale. The rules stated a racer could not switch bikes during the stage. In case of a damaged bike the contestant was forced to do his own repairs. Help could not be accepted as long as the next checkpoint had not been reached. A maximum speed of 18 km/h was in place for some stages and the racer needed to get off his bicycle to sign the checkpoint forms. Racers who left the competition were allowed to rejoin the next days and winning was done by point scores. The favourite suffered a flat tire and needed 3 hours for repairs. Victory eventually went to Luigi Ganna. *Very rare, only remaining copy.
