Dichtkundig Praal-Tooneel

van Neerlands Wonderen (in 6 vols.), Embden (=Amsterdam, G. van Hattem),1748-1754.

8vo., half-leather, title on spine in black and gilt stamping, 7 parts in 6 vols. The 7th part has been added to part 6; it appeared without separate title and fontispiece and starts with: Het gedrag der Stadhoudersgezinden, verdedigt door Mr. A.V.K. (=Elie Luzac te Leiden). 6x the same frontispiece, 6x title in red and black (4),VIII,266,(5);292,(4);283,(5);269,(3);272,(2);16,222,(2),112 pp., incl. 8 folding engravings and 4 folding text engravings, ex-libris and stamps. Collection of pamphlets for and against the Doelisten led by Daniel Raap. Satirical, partly erotic texts. The Amsterdam Doelists favoured the prince, consisted of moderate and radical democrats, probably mostly reformed and disgruntled merchants, who, from 1747 to 1750, opposed the power of the mayors, who divided well-paying jobs among each other: they sold or gave away over 30,000 jobs in Amsterdam. Unusual and interesting. Bindings severely rubbed, inside good. (6 in total)
