Jan van Dijk (1882-1960). (Photo album of the residence of the collector J.C.M. Krook)

Album with 10 leaves on which 20 affixed photos of various sizes, with address sticker "Foto-bureau voor Architectuur, Industrie en Reclame J. van Dijk, Ingenieur. Nic. Maesstraat 46 Amsterdam" on inside back cover, original cord-bound cardboard, oblong folio.

Jan van Dijk was a technical photographer of mostly architecture, advertising and industrial photos. He lived and worked from 1925 at Nicolaes Maesstraat. For more on the photographer Jan van Dijk, see: https://nl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jan_van_Dijk_%28technisch_fotograaf%29. The photos depict not only the facades of the house, but also the interiors of the various rooms filled to the brim with art works, and once the Krook family on their semicircular balcony. The album does not mention it is about the house of J.C.M. Krook. However, because it is a corner house, a street sign is visible: Koninginne weg - Zuid, and also house number 2. After doing some research we came across the name J.C.M. Krook as resident around 1924-1930 (as found in telephone directories from the time). Next, we found the following publication: Verzameling Krook (1930): Verzameling Boeddhistische beeldhouwwerken van J.C.M. Krook (G. Coedès); Een aantal figuren uit de chineesche Collectie-Krook te Amsterdam (A. Hallema); De Javaansche bronzen der Verzameling-Krook (K. With). Images from this publication show items also found in our photo album. Additionally, we found a Hotel Drouot auction catalogue from 1935 of the Krook collection. The collection was apparently of international importance. The album also shows how this famous collection of museological items was displayed in the collector's own home.
