LOT 252
PASSED

[Placard Cologne 1590. Numismatics] Placard,

issued on 11 May 1590 by "Burgermeister und Rhät. des heiligen Reichs freier Statt Cöln", concerning the value of the "ach heller's pfenningh" minted in the city as compared to those minted in other places, leaf size 40 x 30 cm.

Horizontal middle fold, else slightly creased and frayed, yet a good copy. Two small holes and small tear in left margin probably due to former binding with cord. Very rare (possibly even extremely rare) and relatively early ordinance concerning the coins of Cologne, we were unable to trace any other copies. Date with printing error: "Im Jahr Tausend vnuffhundert Neuntzigh, den elfften Tagh, Maij." The ordinance concerns among other things a "verordtnung des Niderlandischen/ Westphalischen Kraitz Stendt" and a warning when paying for grain and flour using this coin.
