[Pierre du Jarric. India Orientalis] R.P. Petri Iarirci (...). Nova Historia

rerum memorabilium., quae tam in India Orientalis quam aliis Regionibus quas Lusitani detexêre (...). Tomi tres. Iam nuper Latinitate donati studio & opera Matthiae Martinez. Tomi tres. Cologne, P. Henningius, 1615, 794,(51) p., contemporary profusely blindstamped pigskin across wooden boards, with copper attachment points for two clamps preserved, at the top of each of these point the letter "S".

Browned, joints reinforced on inside, lacks clamps. With on the final page an old stamped bookplate with initials "VCT". Volume 1 of the work Thesaurus Rerum Indicarum, which consisted of 3 volumes. This is also the "running title" throughout the book; a variant exists in which it is also listed in the title page engraved with this variant (there without letterpress title). Various library descriptions mention two plates; we were unable to trace whether this also applies to our edition, but it is assumed this only applies to the variant with the engraved title. Very rare Latin translation of the even rarer Histoire des choses plus memorables advenues tant ez Indes Orientales, que autres pais de la descouverte des Portugais, en l'establissement et progrez de la foy Chréstienne et Catholique. "Pierre de [du] Jarric (1566 – 1617) was a French Catholic missionary writer from Toulouse (...). Jarric's work gives a comprehensive picture of the missionary enterprises of the Jesuits up to 1610, chiefly within the sphere of Portuguese interests. It contains much valuable data on colonial history, geography, and ethnography, taken from Spanish and Portuguese reports, and from the works of Father Luis de Guzman (...)." (Wikipedia).
