[Beautiful binding] Two (very rare) titles in one volume: (1) Het paradys des hemels.

Printed at Brussels by Eugène Henry Fricx for Cornelis Stichter at Amsterdam, n.d. (c. 1703, calendar starts on 20 January 1704), (24),483,(3),18 p., with engraved frontispiece, title illustration and 22 illustrations in the text, 12mo, very fine contemporary binding in binding with boards and spine of dark chestnut and ochre turtle and with tooled silver hinges and clamps, all edges gilt and chiselled, 13.5 x 9.5 cm.

Spine head with minor tear and head cap missing, minimal damage to edges, but a very good copy of this type of fragile binding. One clamp with old owner's initials "G.T." We were unable to trace any silver marking, possibly applied to the silver below the pastedowns. On Het Geheugen van Nederland we found a very well-comparable example made c. 1710-1720 (Koninklijke Bibliotheek). The printed work is very rare, PiCarta lists only one copy. (final quarter 17th century), 96 p., with memento-mori woodcut on the title page, 12mo. Very rare, lovely title, only two copies in PiCarta. Extraordinary combination of a relatively early turtle binding and rare contents; turtle bindings usually contain bibles. (total 2 titles in one fine binding)
