PASSED

[De Stijl] Jan den Drijver (1903-1993). Three drawings: (1-2) (Interiors).

Two drawings in pen and ink on thick paper, coloured with watercolour, each ± 18 x 22 cm., both signed "J. den Drijver" [one in De Stijl script] and dated "6' 29" and "'29" in pen, both with original eye affixed to reverse, drawing with signature in De Stijl script with letterpress (entirely lower case) label on spine: "jan den drijver "de stijl". laan van meerdervoort 864 den haag tel. 339034".

Both drawings yellowed and faded due to previous framing; the original border with tape (resp. black and silver) partly missing with both drawings. Highly extraordinary and extremely rare original De Stijl design drawings, early work of Johannes Hendrik Bastiaan den Drijver - furniture maker and designer, and interior architect. The RKD confirms the address Laan van Meerdervoort 864 as a showroom and workshop of "Woninginrichting De Stijl" for the 1933-1936 period (previously Thomsonlaan 99). These designs may have been displayed in the showroom. The RKD also lists specific literature: R. Boes, "Een onderzoek naar de meubelmaker, meubelontwerper en binnenhuisarchitect Jan den Drijver", 5 December 2016 (unpublished article); (3) Idem (attributed). (Two interiors on one leaf). Drawings in pencil and coloured chalk on percale-like paper, leaf 27.5 x 29 cm. (not entirely rectangular). Several folds, minor tears, thumbtack holes and minor damage.
