[Scrapbooks] Two volumes: (1) Album containing ± 50 lvs. with over 200 mounted scraps,

England, 2nd half 19th century (a few scraps older), mostly wood-engraved or (col.) lithographed and with printed English captions. Also incl. some photographs for the greater part depicting various kinds of birds, as well as elephants, whales and other large mammals. Contemporary half green vellum w. (original) labels on spine, folio (45 x 30 cm).

Some lvs. sl. frayed; a few scraps cut out or torn out, partly loosely inserted. Board edges and corners worn. Contains a handwritten "Classification of birds" pasted on upper pastedown, a beautifully handcoloured etching of a spoonbill published in 1792, a number of scraps on flightless birds such as dodos, kiwis, cassowaries and ostriches. Among the scraps depicting elephants are two albumen photographs of Indian working elephants. And 1 other English scrap album from the same period, with ± 30 cloth lvs. with around 300 mounted scraps (including series from cut-up children's books) (unbound and waterstained, sold w.a.f.). Added: 7 handcoloured woodcuts cut out from Dutch catchpenny prints. (total 9)
