[Caricature] 3 various prints: (1) Romeyn de Hooghe (1645-1708). "Wie boven zynen staet,

verwaent zich durf verheffen, En steeken overdwaas den Hemel naar zyn Kroon, Verdient, ten Spiegel van verwaenden aaert, ten toon te staen op een schavot, en ramp op ramp te treffen". Etching, 49 x 38.5 cm, above engr. caption and letterpress poem in 2 columns, mounted at corners.

With closed tear; cut inside the plate mark; sl. foxed and smoothed-out folds. F.M. 2773; Landwehr, Romeyn de Hooghe the Etcher p.225. From a caricatural series of around 1688, of anti-catholic prints on James II, Louis XIV and the Pope, in favour of William III (protestant), referring to the religious and political turmoil in England in that year; (2) George Cruickshank (1792-1878). "Six of the most approved methods of appearing ridiculous on the ice". Handcol. engraving after Woodward, sheet size 26 x 20.5 cm, published in London by Allen & West, "1796" (= c. 1820). Traces of old mount verso; sl. yellowed; left margin frayed. And 1 more ("Op den Soldaatje Spelende Domine Marcel"). (total 3)
