Françoise Janicot

Signed silkscreen on off-white paper, 34.5 x 26.5 cm, untitled and undated. Made in an edition of 50, this copy numbered 10/50. Janicot (1929 - 2017) was a French painter, photographer, performance artists, sound poet, and feminist artist. In the late 1960s she photographed several of her contemporaries including Julien Blaine, John Cage, Charlotte Moorman, Jean-Jacques Lebel and others.

In the 1970s she collaborated on several projects with her husband, the sound activist Bernard Heidsick, as well as with John Giorno and Guy Schraenen. Recurring themes in her work are Hide and Seek and 'Enconnages', wrappings covering and uncovering the body. This silkscreen seems to play with this element. Slight crease on lower left corner, very tiny spot not affecting the image, generally a very fine copy.
