In 1863, Louwrens Hanedoes was named a knight in the Order of Leopold by the Belgian king in 1863 on occasion of a general art exhibition in Belgium, the archive holds the official documents concerning this nomination, as well as a letter in which Hanedoes thanks "Monsieur le Ministre" for the honour.
