[Medieval box] Wooden box clad with leather ("cuir bouilli") and iron straps
France, c. 1500, length 19 cm., blackened leather on lid tooled in low-cut relief, with cast-iron lock band on outside.
Various minor defects and traces of age (e.g. tender piece on right side of lid), lacking pieces of metal strap; inside lid with pasted old letterpress paper leaf in Spanish, surrounded my remains of green cloth padding. Key added later (not functioning).
