(View of the Nieuwezijds Kapel in Amsterdam).
Watercolour, 53.5 x 39 cm., with on reverse in pencil "Oudezijds-kapel [sic] Amsterdam (...) 29 januari 1900" (trifle yellowed).
The highly extraordinary medieval Nieuwezijds Kapel (built in the place where the Mirakel van Amsterdam occurred in 1345) was demolished in 1908 as decided by the Hervormde Gemeente, despite furious protests. The Stadsarchief possesses a watercolour from 1898 by R.A. van de Pavert (an unfinished design for renovation), drawn from the exact same viewpoint, but with the Enge Kapelsteeg and the Wijde Kapelsteeg drawn in (omitted in our drawing).
