Trunk made of iron painted black and gilt-lettered with copper lock, 77.5 x 43 x 26 cm., with label on inside "Manufactured in Birmingham Whiteway Laidlaw & Co" and remains of a second label, c. 1900.
In used condition with various defects such as dents, wear, rust and a hole in the bottom, top plate trifle tender. Lovely and rare type of sports memorabilium. Major Egerton Green was a polo manager at the exclusive association of private members, Hurlingham Club, which still exists: https://www.hurlinghamclub.org.uk/. A page from "The Sphere" from 1914 available online mentions him and also a team of polo players of the 12th Lancers.
