Knizak founded Aktual Art in 1964, promoting a complete fusion of art and life through participatory street actions. De Ridder contacted the artist to contribute to Fluxus events. In 1965 Knizak was appointed director of Fluxus East by Maciunas and bonded with Fluxus West foreman Ken Friedman and Tjeerd Deelstra.
