[Songs etc.] 13 booklets: (1-7) Woltje and Jeltje Doekles Gerritzen

(1846-1869 and 1848-1925). Seven booklets in small 8vo size, 32-44 p., mostly containing handwritten songs by the pious Frisian sisters Woltje (5x) and Jeltje (2x) Doekles Gerritzen, dated 1856-1874, all in various colourful original wrappers.

Lovely set of personal booklets, providing insight in 19th-century Frisian culture. Conveniently enough, an album with photographic portraits of members of the family Dijkstra-Gerritzen, now preserved at Museum Warkums Erfskip (available online), contains portraits of both Woltje and Jeltje. A few song titles: "Een nieuw lied van een Vlaamsch meisje met een Franschman"; "Het gestolen kind, of de Wedergevonden ouders"; "De vrolijken goede vrijer" and "Een nieuw lied, of Wreede moord". A highly interesting booklet dated 15 November 1874 contains a vision by Jeltje that she had on 9 October 1860, between 12 and 2 o'clock at night. She encountered an angel and a demon walking back home. And 4 similar booklets, with texts by Anne Tjitzes Rijpkema (1846-1930) and others. Added: Vlieger's Lei-teekenvoorbeelden 7 and 8. (total 13)
