[The secret of the unicorn] Thomae Bartholini De unicornu observationes novae
Secunda editione Autiores & emendatiores à Filio Casparo Bartholino. Amsterdam, J.H. Wetsteen, 1678, (16),381,(15)p., engraved frontispiece, woodcut printer's device on title page, 1 folding engraved plate and many engraved illustrations by R. De Hooghe, original parchment, 12mo.
Excellent copy with only a few minimal defects.
A richly illustrated discourse on the legendary unicorn, in which Caspar Bartholin (1655-1738) continues the work of his father Thomas Bartholin (1616-1680, publication in 1645) and grandfather Caspar Bartholin (1585-1629, publication in 1628). This is one of the most impressive (and therefore most desirable) publications in this field.
