[Extraordinary copy] Klassiek-barok-modern

Lecture by Theo van Doesburg. Antwerpen, De Sikkel/ Amsterdam, Em. Querido, 1920, 31,(1) p., with 17 illustrations on plates, original cover by Theo van Doesburg.

Trifle foxed as usual, spine sl. tanned and with small tears. Extraordinary copy for several reasons: the name of the original owner in pen on the half title: "A. Elzas Archt. 1927". Abraham Elzas was an important architect and produced the building plans for Van Doesburg's house in Meudon-Val-Fleury. On Elzas, see the online article: http://nl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gebruiker:Tekstman/Abraham_Elzas. Furthermore, this copy is remarkable for the original architecture sketch in pencil above the colophon on the final page, finished with the typical De Stijl colours in gouache and with tiny notes in pencil. This drawing is mostly likely made by Elzas, but could also have been made by Van Doesburg.
