Leiden, J. du Vivie and I. Severinus, 1699, (6),23,(3),263,(3),(60) p., with 35 engraved portraits (incl. 1 double-p. double portrait) all HANDCOLOURED and heightened with gum by a professional "afsetter", 1 other engr. plate, contemp. blindstamped vellum with gilt and ribbed spine, folio.

Four portraits are mentioned in the binder's index (Jan de 3., Philips van Oostenrijk, Keizer Karel and Philips van Spanje), but were never included in the work. Cf. for example the plates in the digitised KB copy. In the KB description, a number of 39 plates is erroneously mentioned, but in that specific copy (and other digitised copies we checked) a letterpress mounted label explains the absence of the plates. No traces of such a label can be found in our copy. A rather used copy. A few quires with brown stains and/ or loose(ning); occas. fingersoiled; a few (repaired) tears; 1 portrait lacks lower outer corner (w. loss of part of the letterpress poem). Vellum soiled/ stained. Third edition, the first illustrated one. Copies with handcoloured plates are very rare. "Afsetters" rarely signed their work. The most famous of the period of our handcoloured copy was Dirk Jansz van Santen (1637-1708).
