Paperboard folder containing a total of 30 modern book binding designs by Paul Kersten. Incomplete series Art Nouveau designs in individual brown covers with bookbinder's advertising. The paperboard cover (35 x 27 cm.) with ties, the designs (ca. 15 x 18 cm.) tipped-in on numbered pages (31 x 24 cm.) and finished in several colours.
Paul Kersten (1865-1943) was a German art book binder, professor and author of numerous specialist publications. Part of his fame stems from his use of human skin for some of his book bindings (from 1911); he wrote extensively about these bindings in trade journals.
