Captivating series of original photos with images of masks made by Eugène Brands (1913-2002), shortly before the establishment of Cobra. Two of the photos depict Brands himself with one of his masks (the photo with Brands sitting is published in his work Collages en assemblages (1997)). This concerns original prints of photos by Frederik Louis Lemaire (1921-2005). Added to the lot is a newspaper article in French (Curieux, Premier hebdomadaire Suisse Romand no. 16, published on 17 April 1947) on the surrealist masks by Brands. Two of the photos from this lot are pictured in this article, mentioning the photographer.
