Lacks prize. Paper here and there tanned; lacks ties and vellum slightly soiled; title shield removed from back (inserted in book). Copy with wide margins and with ex libris of "J.D." with motto "Tenere cursum" on inside front cover.
Rutgerus Ouwens (1692-1780) was rector at Alkmaar and afterwards at The Hague. This work, his last, was published shortly after his death. Van der Aa: "Hij stelde dit werk in slaaplooze nachten ten gevolge van het gebruik van het laudanum Sydenhami op en gaf het in 90jarigen [sic] ouderdom, op raad van Janus Grotius, advocaat te 's Hage, in het licht."
