[Law. Justinian] Volumen legum parvum, quod vocant
in quo haec insunt: 3 posteriores libri codicis D. Justiniani (... ) authenticae, seu novellae constitutiones eiusdem principis (...). Cum commentariis Accursii ac Contii, Dionysii Gothofredi (...). Orleans, T. de Juges, 1625, 4 parts in 1 vol., (28),338;(1 blank); (8),648; (26),252; (12),614,(1 blank),(30) p. (the paginated parts numbered in columns), with woodcut printer's device on main title and on 1 divisional title, contemp. overlapping limp Italian vellum w. manuscript title on spine, folio.
Besides a few small internal and external defects, a good copy, with the engraved heraldic bookplate of "C.W.G.V.N." [= Christophorus Wenceslaus Graf von Nostitz (1648-1712)] on inside front cover. Also with old owner's entry "Gottfried Eichhorn" on title p. Part of the Corpus iuris civilis Iustinianei, complete in itself. The title is sometimes read as "Volumen legum paruum". A rather rare folio edition of this compilation of Roman law by the Byzantine emperor Justinian I (482-565), edited with many comments by the best scholars of the day, printed with fine typography using various types of letters. Leaf M8 (columns 25-28) of the second part is a good example of a misprint: the outer corner (with sl. larger blank margins than the other corners) is folded inwards. The printers did not bother correcting this paper flaw and left the corner folded inwards, simply printing over it.
