[Undertakers] Three handwritten account books of an undertaker,

consisting of a cost overview of funerals and cremations carried out from 1952 to 1971, 49 p., and two uniform account books with a specification of "Verkoop" of flowers, March 1919 - January 1920, 55 p., and "Inkoop" of flowers, March 1919 - December 1919, 5 p., on preprinted account book paper, (uniform) half cloth, folio.

Interesting insight into the world of the undertaker. The account with the actual revenue of funerals and cremations in particular reveals the strange, business-like side of this industry in great detail: in the book, "customers" are listed with serial numbers 320 to 565, with columns for the date, the debtors (the heirs), the account total, "graf en rechten", advertisements, deeds, "diverse", "voor de begrafenis/ crematie van:" (with the name of the deceased), wages and tips, coffin and mourning, equipment etc. Everything with lethal precision and with amounts which, added together, clearly prove the profitability of this industry. The other two account books partly show, curiously enough, the same names of persons to whom flowers were sold and from whom flowers were bought. With: book with hundreds (partly pasted, partly loose) newspaper clippings concerning funeral services, 1934-1937, with attached strips of Leendert Swanevelt Bureau voor Uitknipsel-Reportage (apparently specifically ordered). A brief example: advertisements of the Coöperatieve Vereeniging u.a. voor Lijkbezorging; "Vereenigings-secretaris aangehouden. Van een organisatie voor llijkbezorging te Den Haag. Administratie verduisterd?"; "Associatie voor Lijkbezorging. Een chaotische toestand. Aanklacht bij de politie"; "Het vraagstuk der lijkverbranding"; "Sterven is duur... in Nederland" (several versions); "Een Internationale Crematie-Federatie opgericht" and "Het begrafenis-incident in Breda. Een ongewenscht monopolie". And with ca. 20 various other, related (typoscript) documents and small publications, incl. concerning the Vereeniging voor Fakkeltatieve Lijkverbranding and incl. a number of books with prices and regulations.
