Thomas Lawrence (1769-1830). Manuscript letter to "My dear Andrew [Bloxham]",

bifolium with 2 written pages, dated "Russel Square March the 4th 1823", signed "most faithfully yours Th. Lawrence", with on reverse the address "Andrew Bloxham Esq. Worcester College Oxford", poststamped F.M.R. 4 1823, traces of seal (lacks piece of paper, slightly foxed).

The back is covered with transparent yellow wash (possibly as protective varnish?), probably by the artist. In the letter Lawrence indicates he would be proud to produce the portrait of the "Provost": "It is true that I have been (and am still) compelled to decline many applications (...) but it would be hard indeed if Regard or Obligation might not justify some exceptions, and one of them may be justly made in the present instance; both from my affection for an estimable Nephew, and that Respect so naturally due to this distinguished Member of an University from whose beneficial Indulgence I have received the second proudest honor of my professional life."
