Finely bound Lipsius-Plantijn convolute, with special provenance
Three works bound together in strictly contemporary rich blindstamped pigskin, front board with central panel with image of Justitia (or Constantia, considering the content) between owner's initials "CVH" and date 1611, covered with gilt supralibros of Ernst Friedrich von Döring (1659-1726), reverse with central panel with image of St. Catharine, both panels encircled with series of rollstamp-borders, ribbed back with the three titles of the contents in black ink, 4to.
Content and binding in very good condition but for a few small defects and traces of use, the leather on the back board had a centered repair applied before binding. Ernst Friedrich von Döring (1659–1726) was "kurfürstlich-sächsischer Hofjustitiarius", "Geheimer Rat" and Chancellor of the diocese of Naumburg and Zeitz. His extensive library was sold at auction in 1730 at Leipzig, the auction catalogue (Catalogvs Bibliothecæ Viri Perillustris Ernesti Friderici de Doering (...), more than 500 pages) is available online. This catalogue lists our book with catalogue number 665, on p. 358.
