[A poor cannon maker] Extract uyt de resolutien van de (...) Raaden van Staate (...)
Vrydag den 19 October 1770 ("de saak van den geweesen Grofgeschutgieter Verbruggen"). No place or publisher, (1770), 22 p., with 4 large folding engraved plates, contemporary marbled cardboard binding, folio.
Protruding edge of several plates duststained/discoloured; paper on spine worn, boards with a few small water stains. On the front board a heartshaped manuscript explanation: "Int jaer 1770 sijn er Canons doorgesaegt die alle met gulle en gaten syn bevonden die gegooten ware door Verbrugge Canon gieter. Int jaer 1773 die voor mijn zoon sijn."
Interesting and rare report of a thorough investigation into 23 extremely unprofessionally cast cannon (in 1761 and 1762), illustrated with beautifully detailed, very large engravings. Artillery caster Jan Verbrugge from The Hague had attempted to cover up the defects to the cannon with plugs and tin cloths. From the very thoroughly executed investigation, however, more sloppy work emerges. The reports were signed by Captains of Artillery D.E. Musly and A.E. Du Pont and by "verbusser" W. van Dyck.
