"Andachtsbuch für Bether von Verstand und Gefühl".

Prayer book abundantly illuminated in multicolour gouache, Germany, first quarter 19th century, (3),167 p., text partly in fine calligraphy, with 5 full-page miniatures, 9 pages with decorative borders and ca. 60 head- and tailpieces with scenes of flowers and flower baskets, contemporary blindstamped sheepskin across thin wooden boards, both boards with pasted-on contrasting red leather shield, 18 x 11 cm., in cardboard case with leather sides (small defects and traces of use).

The first quire of 8 leaves on laid paper, else on vellum paper. The title is derived from the work by Gottfried Immanuel Wenzel, of which we traced editions from 1795, 1799, 1815, 1820 and 1828. The calligraphed title of the 1799 edition strongly resembles the one in our manuscript.
