(1840), letterpress title page with lithographed illustration, followed by 44 (of ?) lithographed plates: six portraits in the "De l'Homme" section numbered 1-6, seven hand-coloured plates of Icelandic lepers in the "Medecine" section numbered 1-7, twenty hand-coloured (and partly gum-heightened) plates in the "Zoologie. Poissons" section numbered 1-16 and 18-21, three plans and 1 map in the "Géologie" section numbered 3-6, five hand-coloured plates in the "Zoologie. Mammifères" section numbered 7-11, and two hand-coloured plates in the "Zoologie. Mollusques" section numbered 15 and 17, contemporary half leather with gilt back, large folio.

Incomplete copy, here and there slightly foxed; binding slightly worn on hinges and edges of boards. Contains beautifully coloured plates of many species of fish, the Icelandic fox and Icelandic horse, and uncoloured plans of Reykjavík and Skálholt. The portraits of the lepers, too, are beautifully hand-coloured and very lifelike.
