Humphreys] from the original French. New/ fifth edition, London, printed for L. Davis and many others, 1770 [volume 5-7]/ 1776 [remainder], with 7 different, engraved frontispieces and 200 mostly folding engraved plates, incl. a world map and a celestial chart in 4 parts, contemporary uniform calf, gilt back with raised bands with morocco title shields.
On the inside here and there tanned (e.g. by the leather); not every plate in the right place, but all included; bindings with wear to spine ends, hinges and outer corners of the boards. The British Library keeps a copy also with in volumes 1-4 "new edition" and in volumes 5-7 "fifth edition", apparently as published. Lovely, profusely illustrated encyclopaedia for children, with plates in all possible educational fields. Rare in this complete condition.
