Extremely rare movable book: The Paignion.
With Sixty-Five Figures, which can be placed in any of the Twelve Views to form an infinite variety of domestic Scenes. (London), F.C. Westley, 162, Picadilly, n.d. (between 1836 and 1839), 12 handcoloured lithographed pages and 17 (of 65) insertable handcoloured lithographed human figures, original wrapper with title label (title copied here) on outside front board and label with instructions on inside front board.
Very incomplete, moreover several of the highly delicate figures included are defect; interior hinge of front board is broken and the ties are missing. With dedication on the free endpaper: "Nicholas Theodore Steur, from a sincere friend July 25 1846" (possibly Nicolaas Theodorus Steur from Maassluis, 9 February 1841-1915). Extremely rare, Worldcat lists only two copies (Princeton and Oxford). Lovely and relatively early movable book. With 1 more added (total 2).
