elk leer' zich voor verkeerdheid wagten." Catchpenny print with 20 woodcuts each with a human heart in various circumstances, sheet size 39.5 x 33 cm, touched w. colour, Amsterdam, B. Koene (Jr.), "Boekdrukker, in de Boomstraat", (c. 1820), unnumbered.

Folded several times; sl. foxed; sm. hole in lower blank corner. Very good copy for this kind of print. Boerma, Borms et al, Kinderprenten volksprenten, centsprenten, schoolprenten. On the subject, see De Meyer p. 456-458. Rare emblematic hearts print, using woodblocks from an old emblem book by J.J. Starter called "Steek-boekjen, Ofte 't Vermaak der Jeugdelijker Herten om daer door te wten, Den Herten secreten" (Amsterdam, I. van der Putte, 1704). This booklet contains 65 woodcuts; (2) "Het vermaak der jeugdelijke harten." Catchpenny print with 16 woodcuts (partly printed from the same blocks as (1)), sheet size 34 x 40.5 cm, touched w. colour, Zaltbommel, J. Noman, (c. 1820), with title and "Lett. B. no. 348" at the top, each woodcut with its own two-line letterpress verse below. Folded several times; a few small holes on folds, sl. affecting 2 woodcuts. Noman published 4 different versions of catchpenny prints with the "Steek-boekjen"- blocks, numbered 348 A-D. (total 2)
