Archive Jan Mammen (1899-1978)

Personal archive of artist Jan Mammen with photos, sketches, ex libris, letters, official documents.

Mammen worked on numerous projects including the Sint Agneskerk in Amsterdam, where he was project manager and produced the stained-glass window. The archive contains several sketchbooks and dozens of loose sketches and watercolours, consisting of professional and various other subjects. Several copies of the printed programme 125 jaar Drukkerij Spin (9 pp.), designed by Mammen, several ex libris, numerous photos with images of his work (incl. many images of stained glass), the artist at work, and often religious artwork which served as inspiration to him. Finally, also included is a large part of the business administration, e.g. regarding Stichting Kunst in Abonnement, a stamp with signature of Mammen and the BBK archive from the '50s, when Mammen was secretary, with extensive reports and membership lists. Moreover there are personalia such as letters and (picture) postcards, including correspondence with church officials, a passport issued on 10 March 1938, a leather wallet containing an identity card dated 27 June 1941, a pocket book of the 9e Regiment Infanterie belonging to Dienstplichtig-soldaat Mammen (stamped at Assen, 20 March 1922), certificates of competence, a wedding book signed on 18 August 1925 by Mammen and his wife Bregitta Schemer, and death notices for his father Johan (who died on 3 May 1922) and his wife.
