Amsterdam, J. van Meurs, 1670, 2 parts in one volume, (6),504,(6); (2),263,(1)p., with double-page engraved map, 32 engraved double-page plates (of which 5 folding) and 6 full-page engraved plates, 57 half-page engraved illustrations in the text, contemporary calf with gilt back, large 4to.
Lacks the frontispiece and else a poor, partly waterstained and here and there browned copy; one plate with loose corner (preserved) and first page of the index of part 1 with two loose parts (restorable). With old ownership's annotation in Greek dated 1717 on the free endpaper and letterpress mark "H. Ex." on the final free endpaper. Binding worn but solid.
The first edition of this account of the 2nd and 3rd V.O.C. missions to China. Notable are the many pagination errors. The plates depict city views, remarkable buildings, customs, plants and animals etc. The second part with the four plates after Chinese examples added during the second print run, not mentioned in the binder's index.
