Bookblock browned as usual, boards with minor defects; dust jacket foxed and duststained, with fold in top edge on back, 2 minor repairs and in several places (e.g. top spine) lacks very small pieces. Still a very fair copy. Rare first edition of Hermans's prose debut, with the even more rare "Belgian" dust jacket, illustrated with still from the American film Double Harness (1933) with actors William Powell and Ann Harding.
