Very skillful portrait. R.M. Nijhoff was a collector of art, books and manuscripts and a well-known figure in the poetic, artistic and intellectual circles of his time. He organised various exhibitions of his collection in e.g. Deventer and Wijk bij Duurstede. See also lot 743 and the following lot.
