[Japan] Ogawa Kasuma (1860-1929). Types of Japan. Celebrated Geysha of Tokyo.

Tokyo, n.d. (ca. 1892-1893), (one volume also with address Yokohama etc., Kelly and Walsh), two volumes each bound with a small letterpress (characters) and respectively with 12 and 9 collotype plates, original uniform cordbound limp boards, folio (40 x 29.5 cm.).

Both volumes with library label on front board and minor other defects, the volume with 9 plates has a damaged back board with also the last plate slightly damaged in blank margin. The volume with 12 plates is in (very) good condition. Fine and rare print series. Worldcat lists 5 copies, of which 4 in America, no copies in PiCarta. The 12 platen in the first volume show in all but one of the plates a full-length geisha each time in the same Japanese room. The other volume contains 8 plates with each 12 small oval portraits, the last plate depicts 9 such portraits. "Ogawa was a founding member of the Japan Photographic Society, which gathered photography amateurs from all around Japan. In 1891, he was charged with taking 100 pictures of Tokyo's most attractive geisha, to commemorate the opening of the Ryunkaku." (Wikipedia).
