[Beautiful copy, with original copies of Rembrandt and others] Etching and Etchers.

By Philip Gilbert Hamilton. London, Macmillan & Co., 1868, first edition, XXVI,(2),354,(1) p., with 35 etched plates (of which 4 double-p. and one folding), incl. ORIGINAL ETCHINGS by REMBRANDT (Hollstein 118, Jacob en Laban), JACQUES CALLOT (La tour de Nesle), PAULUS POTTER, JOHAN BARTOLD JONGKIND, KAREL DUJARDIN, SAMUEL PALMER, PHILIP SEYMOUR HADEN and CHARLES FRANÇOIS DAUBIGNY, brilliantly bound by BAGGULEY (Newcastle-Under-Lyme) (ca. 1935) in orange-brown full polished gilt morocco with raised bands, with on both boards an inlaid vellum doublure with engraved and gilt coloured decoration by "L.S." [or I.S.], silk endpapers, all edges gilt, 4to, in original cardboard dropback box with silk lining.

Here and there trifle foxed as usual; dropback box slightly worn. Else a sought-after, very tastefully bound copy. With a pasted "Identification Label Royal Academy Exhibition of British Art in Industry" with classification: "Binding", exhibition codes and a price of 55 Pound. The exhibition was held at London, 1935, the exhibition catalogue is available online but we were unable to trace our copy therein. The book contains besides the etchings by the aforementioned artists mostly etchings of contemporary English artists, including 6 etchings by Hamerton himself.
