"Album of Photographs".
Photo album with lithographed title page followed by 25 cardboard leaves with altogether 140 inserted photos in various media, ca. 1860-1890, 6x in cabinet card-size, the remainder cartes-de-visites, mostly consisting of portrait photos and photos of famous works of art, but also including a photo of a Northern-American native tribal chief, series of (handcoloured) costume photos and handcoloured photos of Hongkong-Chinese, original blindstamped leather across wooden boards, 30 x 23 x 6 cm. (lacks clamp).
Although the album mostly consists of photos of comparatively little interest, part of the photos make it interesting still. For example a portrait photo from ca. 1860 of "Kish-Kah-Nah-Cut (Stump.) Chief of Mille Lac Chippewas" (Whitney's Gallery, Saint Paul) and a photo titled "Red River ox carts" with the same address. Also fine series of (handcoloured) costume and profession photos (many regarding Switzerland, contains for example a lovely, uncoloured photo with 4 chimney sweeps). Also deservin of mention is a series of 11 photos (10 handcoloured) of which 5 with address "Pun Lun Photographer (...) Hongkong" (the remainder almost certainly also by him), with inscriptions in pen: "How they smoke opium", "Sweetheart No. 1-3' (3 photos of elegant ladies), "Betrothed", "Dour but Dainty" and "A street view the best part of which is round the corner" (total 140 in album).
