[De Ruijter-feest at Medan 23 March 1907] Album with 29 pasted photos,
8.5 x 11 to 15.5 x 21 cm., also pasted a folding supplement of the Bataviaasch nieuwsblad (portrait of the sea hero), a folding quire from Weekblad voor Indië, the second page of the Sumatra Post (25 March 1907), the original programme of the festivities presented by the Sumatra Post, a flyer with De Ruijter songs and another newspaper clipping and 3 De Ruyter postage stamps, contemporary gilt-lettered halfcloth, oblong folio.
The first cardboard album leaf bent, affecting 2 photos, the newspaper clippings with some browning and brittle/ with tears, binding with some traces of use. Lovely and specific album of the festivities in honour of Michiel de Ruijter's 300th birthday, held at Medan on Saturday 23 March 1907. In the album, the name Meesters appears several times, e.g. Ge Meesters and Giliam Meesters as inscriptions with a portrait photos with 2 dressed-up children, and the name G. Meesters on the song flyer. Provenance of the album is therefore the Meesters family. A large school feast was held where among other things the aforementioned songs were sung, and an exhibition competition was held for small fitted ships and sailor dolls. The Meesters children in the aforementioned photo have such a doll (the girl Ge) and ship (the boy Giliam) at their feet. The programme announces various folk games, of which several photos are pasted. Also photos of the Witte Societeit and the parade of wagons converted into a ship.
