[Cynology] Album Preisgekrönter Hunde der ersten Internationalen Ausstellung Hannover 1879
Vereins zur Veredelung der Hunderacen zu Hannover, 1879. Halfcloth oblong folio with 92 (of 93?) numbered leaves with pasted collotypes of dogs, with statement of name, race and owner. Photos Gebr. Wunder, Hannover, collotypes Alois Mayer, Frankfurt am Mainz.
Lacks photo no. 1, else present up to 93. File restored along spine, lacks ties. Several leaves with minimal marginal damage, else good. Very rare and early album with collotypes of dogs, of which we were unable to trace any other copies.
*Although the Verein was founded in order to maintain purity of dog breeds, special attention was given to dogs useful for hunting. Hunting was an important pastime for nobility, and the association saw considerable support from German high nobility, among them Prinz Albrecht zu Solms-Braunfels and General-Major Alfred von Waldensee.
