*J.G. Barnard was Brigadier General of the Volunteers during the American Civil War; Senator Grimes was one of the statesmen enjoying a picknick directly besides the Battle of Bull Run. When the soldiers retreated and ran alongside the senators, he was only barely able to save himself and swore to never visit a battle again.
